Read a QR code on your computer screen without reaching for your phone
To read a QR code in an email, a PDF or a web page, you don’t have to point your phone at the monitor. Add a screenshot or paste one with Ctrl+V on this page, and the tool shows exactly what the code contains; if it is a link, a separate button lets you open it. Decoding happens inside your browser.
A closer look
The tool uses the open-source jsQR decoder and looks at the image up to three times: first on a copy scaled to 1000px wide for speed, then at the original resolution, and, for images narrower than 300px, once more at three times the size. It also checks for inverted codes, where a light pattern sits on a dark background. Even so, it reads one code per image, and it does not read 1D product barcodes or 2D codes other than QR. There is no webcam scanning; it accepts image files and pasted screenshots only.
The content is shown raw, exactly as encoded. A Wi-Fi QR appears as text starting with WIFI:, where the part after S: is the network name and the part after P: is the password. A business-card QR shows up as contact text starting with BEGIN:VCARD. When the content starts with http://, https:// or www., an Open link → button appears, but nothing opens automatically, so you can read the address before deciding. Not jumping straight to a website the way a camera app does is actually an advantage when a code comes from an unknown source.
How to use it
- Drop an image showing the QR code on the page or use Choose file. If a screenshot is already on your clipboard, just press Ctrl+V on this page.
- You will see “Looking for a QR code…” and then “QR code found!”, and the contents appear in the box below.
- If the content is a web address, check it and then use Open link → to open it in a new tab.
- To keep the raw text, press Copy content. If you add several images at once, the results are collected into one list with a separator for each file.

Common snags
Tip On Windows, press Win+Shift+S to capture just the code, then press Ctrl+V on this page to read it without saving a file; on a Mac, Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+4 copies a screen area to the clipboard and Cmd+V pastes it here.
QR Code Reader FAQ
What kinds of QR codes can it read?
All standard QR codes — URLs, plain text, Wi-Fi credentials, vCards and more. When the content is a link, an open-link button appears.
It says no QR code was found.
Small or blurry QR codes are hard to detect. Try a sharper source image or crop closer to the QR code. Heavy tilt or glare can also cause failures.
What if one image has several QR codes?
Only one is read at a time. Crop each code and scan them separately.
Does it read 1D barcodes?
No — it is dedicated to square QR codes. Product barcodes (1D) are not supported.
Is it free? Are my images safe?
Completely free with no limits. Images are processed inside your browser and never uploaded.
